VERY RARE RUGER GOLD LABEL SIDE BY SIDE SHOTGUN.
Cal. 12 Ga. 3" Mag. S# 460-01840. Bbls. (S# 00132) 28" with ejectors plus thin walled factory chokes of Mod. and Full. Mfg. 2005 (2004-2006) as model KSXS-1228 having single selective trigger and model number 04601. Rare because very few were made with pistol grip buttstocks; most were English style straight gripped buttstocks. Consignor purchased this from Robert Davis on Jan. 6, 2014. Davis was the supervisor of stocks at the Newport facility and had this made specifically for him with a "Turkish walnut" checkered stock that is simply spectacular in appearance; normal stock set was AAA American Walnut. LOP is 13 1/2" rather than the normal Ruger 14 1/4" LOP. Standard splinter forend with push button release at its tip. Red rubber pad is the type used on many Ruger centerfire rifles and Red Label shotguns; normally fitted with serrated black plastic buttplate having Ruger logo at center. Stock length is ideal for person of smaller stature or while shooting with thicker clothing. Tooling for the Gold Label was moved from Newport, NH to the Prescott, AZ facility in 2006 with the intention of continuing production (listed in 2008 catalogue); this failed to happen. Consignor states that manager in charge of the model stated that just under 1,000 were actually sold to the public with the balance being destroyed; serial numbers known up to 460-03361. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: original matching numbered white rectangular box with proper label and interior compartmental boxes for buttstock, barrels, etc. Spare chokes of IC (2) and MOD (1), manual, safety lock, factory choke wrench and consignor's purchase bill of sale from Ruger stock manager, Robert Davis. CONDITION: slight separation of red rubber and black base of pad at toe. Balance of shotgun has near excellent exterior appearance. Each barrel has 2 slight radial inward dents aligned with forend attachment lug that are only noticeable on the left barrel with close scrutiny; from about 2 o'clock position to 5 o'clock. Right barrel is slightly more noticeable at 7 to 10 o'clock positions. Both sets of dents likely occurred with attachment lug installation. A quick straight view misses these flaws as ones eye is drawn to the smooth brightness at mid bore. A fine classic double of very limited production. (24-5877/NW). MODERN. $2,500-3,500.
