VERY SCARCE AND DESIRABLE MODEL 1909 COLT REVOLVER
HOLSTER WITH 2 POCKET MILLS CARTRIDGE BELT. The items are similar to one pictured on page 766 of U.S. MILITARY HOLSTERS AND RELATED ACCOUTREMENTS by Edward Scott Meadows. 1) The russet leather holster is embossed "U.S." on the body. Marked on back of belt loop "ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL 1911" / "H.E.K.". The flap is retained by a brass finial. The holster body has a brass loop mounted in the plug and has drain hole at rear. Brass loop is equipped with rawhide thong. Holster also has rawhide thong attached below belt loop that keeps the holster in position. CONDITION: holster has light to moderate wear. Light flexing and scattered staining. Notable 1" abrasion below the "U.S.". 2) Two pocket Mills revolver belt with brass fittings. The tabs are marked "MADE BY" / ''MILLS WOVEN CARTRIDGE BELT CO." / "WOCESTER MASS U.S.A.". Belt is marked on reverse side "45". Fittings were originally finished by what was referred to as Mills Bronze. The pleated pockets are closed by snaps w/ 1903 style eagles. CONDITION: belt has light wear and very light staining. Blackened brass parts have a pleasing, worn patinaed appearance. 3) Mills web saber hanger with Mills Bronze finished brass fittings. The two snaps have screw type locks. The tabs are marked on back w/ the Mills cartridge logo. CONDITION: straps have light wear and staining; stitching is tight. The Mills Bronze finish has largely worn away to a pleasing dark patina. 4) Unmarked canvas first aid pouch. Marked on front under flap "R.I.A. 1910". Pouch is equipped with a wire belt hanger. Flap is secured by two blackened brass snaps. Pouch is equipped w/ sealed brass bandage container. Markings on front include "FIRST AID PACKET - U.S. ARMY" / "CONTRACT AUG. 29, 1910" / " BAUER & BLACK" / "CHICAGO U.S.A". Back of pouch ink written "LT VAN CAMP". CONDITION: canvas pouch has the expected light wear and staining w/ tight stitching. Brass packet container has well worn brown colored finish w/ numerous sm. dents and handling marks.
