Vintage Slater Bros Venture Knife in Sheath

Venture was mark used by H.M. Slater of Sheffield, England.
The knife has seen lots of use and remains very solid. The blade has been buffed abd
sharpended many times..

The knife was solidly built and has a great look. It's a versatile design that's well-suited
for a wide range of common outdoor applications. The thick carbon steel blade was
crisply ground and the clip is semi-sharp. The blade is free of any serious corrosion
and measures 5 inches long - Overall size is 9 inches.
Nice Stag Horn handle.
Comes in a heavy sheath that is stamped Goat Brand.

This cutlery business was founded in 1858 by Warrington Slater (1838-1907), who
owned it with his brother, Walter Slater (1840-1917).
They were the sons of John Marriott Slater and Ann Warrington. John (d. 1871) was
spring knife cutler in Garden Street and then Pea Croft.
Warrington was described in the Census (1871) as a spring knife cutler and local
preacher
