CASE. Cal. 16 Ga. S# 11767. Bbls. 28". Sm. bore British guns are relatively scarce & this attractive, good handling example has dovetailed bbls. engraved “William Evans . 63 Pall Mall . London” on narrow swamped game rib w/ dolls head extension. Bbl. flats are stamped w/ London nitro proofs for 1 oz. of shot & w/ importers name & address (DSA). Case hardened boxlock screw grip action features automatic safety (“SAFE” inlaid in gold), pivoting 3rd fastener, bushed strikers, intercepting safety sears & dbl. triggers. Action is engraved w/ near full coverage, nicely cut classic English scroll. “William Evans” is in scrolled rib and on each side. Top lever floorplate & triggerguard are blued & engraved w/ matching scroll. S# is at grip. Attractively fiddle figured & lightly streaked European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 5/8" over ribbed plastic buttplate. Stock also features drop points, point pattern checkering w/ mullered borders at grip & a vacant silver oval on toeline. Matching splinter Sulfgate ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BORE DIAMETER: left .662, right .664. BORE RESTRICTIONS: left .023 Mod, right .004 IC. WALL THICKNESS: left .030, right .027. DAC: 1 3/8". DAH: 1 15/16". Cast: approx. 1/2" on. WEIGHT: 6 lbs. 2 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: green canvas leather trimmed case by Brady line in burgundy cloth & has new leather gold embossed “Evans” label in lid. Case contains 2 piece rosewood & brass cleaning rod, William Evans marked rnd. oil bottle & empty Evans cartridge box for 20 Ga. shells. Relatively new case, has some marks & bumps. Leather straps & handle are fine. Interior cloth is very good w/ some marks & soiling. Accessories are good. 2002/03 William Evans catalogue & 2 reproduction labels. CONDITION: good as partially restored. Bbls. retaining nearly all of a Best London reblack, engravings slightly softened. Action contains a considerable amount, perhaps as much as 30%, original case hardening color where protected. Blued parts retain nearly all of a good reblue, engravings somewhat softened, triggerguard beginning to silver. Screws show most of a temper reblue. Stocks retain nearly all of a handworn finish, scattering of subsequent marks. Buttplate is relatively new & not very well fitted. Checkering is recut & a bit haphazard. Bores are bright & shiny w/ some striations evident in right bbl. at breech end. Action has a bit of lateral looseness most likely at hinge joint. Bbls. are on face. Ejectors are strong & in time.
