RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF. S# 1009. Bbl. 24" round. Sporting front sight w/ reverse mounted elevator adj. rear sight. Full length mag. Action has replacement raised thumb-print dust cover. Walnut forearm & straight grip stock w/ crescent steel trapdoor buttplate. Mfg. 1874. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: letter signed by Wendell Grangaard of The Guns of History, Inc. Letter details Wendell's interpretation of markings on the rifle as being Togia, the pictorial language of the Great Plains Native Americans. Wendell attributes use of this rifle to Prairie Chicken & relates the story of his participation in the battles of the Little Big Horn & Rosebud. Also includes Wendell's drawings of Togia symbols & Wendell's interpretation of their meanings. CONDITION: metal has faded to brown showing numerous dents & marks on receiver. Sanded & refinished wood is slightly undersize at action w/ chips & cracks around action tangs & on forearm. Stock has numerous dents, scratches & marks. Lightly pitted bore retains sound rifling.
