WW2 ERA US INFANTRY TRAINING CENTER GUIDON, FORT
BENNING, GEORGIA. 19.5" x 28" double applique cotton on blue bunting field. This guidon represents the U.S Army Infantry Training Center’s 1st Brigade, 2nd Battalion, Company E. Fort Benning, near Columbus, Georgia, has been the home of training U.S. Army Infantrymen since 1909 in one form or another. The post, soon to be renamed Fort Moore, has two permanent training brigades for infantry plus Armor and Airborne training units. The guidon here is of an older style for an older command tasked with training infantrymen on post and dates from World War Two to the early 1970s. Of interest is the "pile wavy" design that emanates from the canton. Piles, which are vertical or horizontal extensions from a heraldic badge, are typically triangular in shape with slight variants. A pile wavy features an extension that "waves" as if being blown in a breeze. A pile wavy is rare on U.S. military colors. CONDITION: very good, sound, light fading, yellowing, soiling, undated inspection label in sleeve. (02-19473-38/JS). $200-300.
