BOLT ACTION MILITARY RIFLE WITH U.S. MARKINGS. Cal. 303 Brit. S# 5967. Bbl. 28". Ladder rear sight graduated to 2200 yards. Sight is marked "CANADA TOOL & SPECIALTY CO LTD NEW GLASGOW N.S.". Sight base rear screw is not present. Brass blade front sight. Replacement brass blade front sight. Sight hood has been removed, leaving the lower part in place and held by four screws. Bolt handle has crossed the flag view mark. Receiver is marked on the left rail as "ROSS RIFLE CO QUEBEC, CANADA. 1905" and "PATENTED". Right and left receiver rails are drilled and tapped at the rear with four holes, which have been left open. Rifle is equipped with a Harris-controlled platform magazine. Mag. cutoff at the forward end of the trigger guard bow. Walnut stock & handguards. Buttstock is marked on the right side with "3 (star) II 480/1910 BJ RA416 10.10/5.12" plus several indistinct, lined-out numerals. Stock is marked under grip with a flaming bomb, "US 5967", and a faint "257". Sling swivels and stacking swivel have been removed. Rear swivel was replaced with a sporting-type QD stud. CONDITION: stock set has a worn, original finish with staining and numerous handling marks. Notable dents and a large missing chip on the forend. Forend has approx. 7" crack between bands. Metal has traces of blue turning gray and patina with wear, plus spots of light oxidation. Bolt does not function correctly and will not retract fully to the rear. Worn dark bore with areas of oxidation. (24-1414/RW). CURIO. $600-900.
