FULL BODY ARMOR.
1) HELMET. A M1916/17 German helmet with a dark green painted finish. Helmet is stamped on the inside left “BM66” and has a standard brown leather 3-pad liner with a replaced chinstrap. CONDITION: helmet finish is approx. 75%. Liner is worn but nearly complete. Chinstrap appears to be a replacement for display purposes.
2) STIRNPANZER. A sniper’s brow shield worn with the M1916/17 or the M1918 German steel helmet. Heavy iron plate has much of the original finish remaining. Heavy leather attachment straps on each side of the stirnpanzer. CONDITION: there is oxidation to the finish but no notable damage. Leather is flexed but remain solid.
3) CHEST PLATE. A WWI German machine gunner’s chest plate with full lower 3-plate armor. Chest plates are difficult to find, but nearly impossible with the 3 lower protection plates intact. The lower plates are attached with heavy cotton canvas straps and there is thick square felt pads in between each plate. The complete armor set was quite effective in protecting German machine gunners from small arms fire. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: this armor set comes with a custom built display rack for the chest plate, helmet & stirnpanzer. CONDITION: chest plate has a dark green painted finish with areas of oxidation. The 3 lower plates have a lighter green painted finish and also show areas of oxidation. The lower 3 plates are partially separated from the body due to aging of the attachment straps. No pieces are missing and once the straps are reinforced, the appearance will be exceptional.
