BADGES & BRITISH PARATROOPER BADGES. A truly impressive collection of WWII American & British paratrooper badges with related insignia. This collection includes 12 American badges & 5 British examples.
1) IDENTIFIED KIA U.S. PARATROOPER. This small group includes a paratrooper badge marked, "J.R. GAUNT LONDON" with a bronze star on the left wing & "tip of the spear" on the right wing. This badge belonged to Otto Eichelberg of Company D of the 507th Parachute Infantry who jumped on D-Day & is documented in the Jump Rosters. He was Chalk 14, Series 6. Unfortunately, he is documented as being killed in action by machine gun fire on July 5, 1944 while acting as a scout on the left side of the road on Hill 95. The group also includes his rare unit patch featuring a black & orange jumping spider, with a lightning bolt & lit bomb. There is also a copy of a photograph of the entire unit in front of their plane & a copy of a jump roster from his unit.

6) U.S. PARATROOPER. Badge is marked, "STERLING" & has a "tip of the spear" on the parachute.
7) U.S. PARATROOPER. Badge is marked, "STERLING" & has a "tip of the spear" on the parachute.
8) U.S. GLIDER BADGE. Badge is marked, "STERLING" & has a bronze star on the front of the glider.
9) U.S. GLIDER BADGE. Badge is marked, "N S MEYER STERLING".
10) U.S. COMBINED PARATROOPER GLIDER BADGE. Badge is marked, "STERLING" below an impressed shield.
11) U.S. COMBINED PARATROOPER GLIDER BADGE. Badge is unmarked.
12) U.S. MEDIC. Badge is marked, "STERLING".
13) U.S. MEDIC. Badge is unmarked.
14) BRITISH AIR CORPS. A scarce badge worn by British paratroopers before they became an independent parachute regiment. Badge is unmarked.
15) BRITISH PARATROOPER. Badge is plastic with brass attachment tongues on the reverse. This was an effort to save metal & was authorized from August of 1943 to May of 1945.
16, 17, 18) BRITISH PARATROOPERS. 3 Examples of metal British paratrooper wings with eyelets on the reverse. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: a copy of a roster for Chalk 14, Series 6, Eichelberg's unit. CONDITION: all badges are complete & show light wear. Eichelberg's badge has the tip of the spear detached from the mounting wire but still present. (02-17807/BF). $1,800-2,200.
