Tunic is dark blue gray with 4 pebbled finish gilded buttons down each side of the front along with 2 smaller buttons connected by a chain in the front of the coat. There are 7 loops on the left breast to support a medal bar & 2 loops above to support a clasp. Below are 7 more loops to support 4 badges. The lower right breast has an additional pair of loops for another badge. The shoulder boards are woven gold & silver bullion with a single pip & are backed in white. There is a gold bullion Luftwaffe eagle at the right breast. The collar is bordered in gold bullion cord. The lining is a steel blue rayon as are the interior pockets. The sleeves are lined in an off white rayon. The interior left pocket has a tag that reads, “SEIPOLD Konigsberg/Pr. Herr [GEN. MAJ von Massow](written in ink)”. The uniform is accompanied by a book titled, “GOD IS MY CO-PILOT” & “COL. ROBERT L. SCOTT”. The book written by Scott was presented to General von Massow on July 16, 1952. Also, there is a sketch of fighter planes in flight that accompanies the group. Lt. Gen. Gert von Massow was one of the leading ME-262 pilots of WWII. The ME-262 was one of the earliest jet fighters & was nicknamed the Schwalbe (Swallow) or the Sturmvogel (Storm Bird) in fighter bomber versions. Von Massow held numerable positions in the German military & in 1930 began his flight training. He quickly rose through the ranks becoming a Major General in 1943 & a Lieutenant General in 1945. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copies of information about von Massow & his service. CONDITION: the uniform shows light overall wear with some very light scattered moth damage & a sm. repaired hole near the Luftwaffe eagle. The book is well read & slightly discolored but very solid. Sketch shows a few light water stains & some roughness to the edge. PROVENANCE: Lifetime Collection of Dennis Ottaway. (02-15987-1/BF). $3,000-5,000.
