WWII GERMAN OCTANT & EMPTY EQUIPMENT CASE.
1) OCTANT. A fine example of a German WWII Luftwaffe “Libellen - Oktant mit Mittlungseinrichtung” which roughly translates to “Spirit Level - Octant with Averaging Device”. Complete w/ its original wooden storage box that houses spare bulbs, lenses, a cord & other devices. An octant is used as a navigation by sight device often on bombing runs to maintain & calculate an accurate course. Carrying case measures approx. 12 1/4" x 5 1/2" x 9". CONDITION: octant appears operable but has not been tested. Case has 2 broken hinges. 2) CASE. An empty metal equipment box measuring approx. 10" x 8" x 5" w/ leather covered iron handle. There appears to be the remains of Japanese characters on the front. CONDITION: general oxidation overall. (02-14393(2)/BF). $200-300.
