A nice, seldom-seen example of an early SA brown shirt. This example has three plain, domed, gilded buttons on the front, along with two brown plastic buttons at the top and bottom. There are also gilded buttons on both front pocket flaps and each side of both cuffs. The bottom has six brass brackets to support a belt. Both collar tabs are black with a gold bullion border; the left has four gold pips and two narrow bullion stripes. The right tab shows the number "25". The collar is edged with gold bullion, and the inside has a narrow black tag that appears to read "Indanthrenfarbig". Below this tag, sewn to the lining, is a larger 3" tag that reads "BP Das Vorschriftsmassige SA DIENSTHEMD D.R.G.M. 1064077". Each turnback cuff has two silver bullion stripes at the top. There is a shoulder strap on the left side that is knotted gold bullion on a black background. The left sleeve has an early wool Party armband. After this shirt became a war souvenir, some well-meaning veteran added several pieces to this uniform that obviously do not belong. These pieces include a silver bullion NCO breast eagle on the reverse, three Army specialty patches sewn throughout the uniform, and a 1915 War Service Medal from Aachen sewn to the pocket. There is a WWI bow-style lapel pin, backed with a button, sewn to the collar. Accompanying this fine uniform is a WWI German Army belt buckle of standard form and a small book titled "Liederbuch der Luftwaffe". CONDITION: The uniform is in quite solid condition with several pinholes, likely from pins and badges that were, at one time, erroneously attached to this uniform. The belt buckle shows light wear. The book has faded covers but remains in solid condition. (02-23758/BF). $600-1,000.
