RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 3059285. Bbl. 24". Barrel is marked behind the front sight "RA (flaming bomb) 12-41." These interesting rifles were made under contract by Remington using Rock Island Arsenal tooling leased from the government. This rifle is made with some of the cost-saving measures suggested to the Ordinance Department by Remington, including the elimination of the lightning cuts on the rear sight base and the through hole in the receiver tang. Markings are enhanced in white. Ladder aperture rear sight graduated to 2850 yards. All sight parts marked "R.". Blade front sight with 2-piece base marked "R.". Bolt assembly and cutoff marked "R.". All milled furniture with "R" markings. Walnut stock set. Buttstock is S-type with two recoil bolts, made without grasping grooves, marked at the forend tip "C" and flaming bomb. Marked on left side with "(crossed cannons) RA-P" and faint boxed "R L B." Encircled "P" proof under grip. UNNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: M-1 bayonet with 9 3/4" fullered blade. Marked on left ricasso "A F H flaming bomb U S." Ribbed composite grips. Green plastic scabbard, metal throat has "flaming bomb US." Bayonet and scabbard have moderate wear and loss of finish. Crossguard is bent slightly rearward. CONDITION: stock set has moderately worn original finish with scattered handling marks. Metal retains 75% of its original finish with moderate wear.
