War of 1812 U.S. Officers Eagle Head Sword.
The P-shape brass guard topped by an eagle head with feather detail over the carved bone grip with federal eagle and shield on the crossguard langet. The 32" straight blade retaining most of its original bright nitre bluing still presents all of its original gilt panoply of arms decoration. The original brass scabbard with engraved frog stud with floral decoration. Good original unpolished condition, especially the blade with its rare bluing and original gilt highlights, the leather washer is present, the scabbard displays a couple of minor dents, the bone grip is sound, with a hairline crack running the length of the left side. The blade has no nicks, some areas of very light pin-prick pitting towards the tip. Although this example is unmarked, it appears as an exact copy of swords done by Simon Helvig & Fils.(Fils is French for Sons)
