30-40 Krag SN: 18922 'Best Quality' Side-by-side boxlock double rifle chambered for .30-40 Krag, manufactured in London, England circa 1953. Configuration: Blued & case hardened finish, fine scroll engraving, 24" chopper lump barrels with dolls head third fastener & half rib fitted with triple drop leaf express sights & scope mounts, Lyman Alaskan scope with target dot reticle & quick detach rings, raised & hooded blade front sight with brass bead, selective automatic ejectors, selective single trigger, bushed strikers, bolted tang mounted sliding safety, hand detachable engine turned locks, hinged lock cover plate, sling swivel studs, multi-point checkered extra fancy walnut beavertail forend with Anson release, and semi-pistol grip shoulder stock with drop points, trapdoor steel grip cap, inlayed gold escutcheon engraved "J.J.K.", beaded right handed cheekpiece, leather wrapped recoil pad & 14 1/4" LOP. The barrels are marked "WESTLEY RICHARDS & Co. LONDON" & the watertable is stamped "30/40 KRAG 2.34"/N.C 35 GRS 200 GRS BULLET". All observed serial numbers match. Includes a factory leather wrapped oak trunk case with label, brown heavy canvas cover and partitioned interior lined in forest green velvet. Case contains spare locks, three horn handled tools, leather sling, leather scope case, snap caps, cleaning paraphernalia, ivory container with spare front sight & strikers, lighter case, funnel and four Westley Richards marked nickel plated bottles engraved for solvent, lubricant, linseed & preservative. The canvas cover and brass escutcheon on the lid of the case are marked "J.J.K.", according to documents between Jim Wilkinson & Richard Hodgson its stands for John J. King. Perhaps this is the same John J. King that it said to have purchased the Carcano rifle used by Lee Harvey Oswald to assassinate President John F. Kennedy. Rifle retains approximately 99% of it's original blued finish showing little to no visible wear. The receiver exhibits vivid case colors with gold "WESTLEY RICHARDS" on either side & "WESTLEY RICHARDS/ PATENT ONE TRIGGER" on the top. Action is tight, the bores are pristine, markings are crisp and the satin wood stocks are near fine with semi-worn checkering.
