'Third Model, Yellow Boy' Desirable early brass frame lever action repeating rifle chambered in .44 Rimfire, manufactured circa 1868. The iconic 1866 was the first firearm to bear the Winchester name, it was produced in three different variations(carbine, rifle & musket), went through four model changes and production lasted from 1866-1898 with an estimated 170,101 rifles produced. The estimated number of Sporting Rifle configuration rifle produced is only 28,000, a mere 16.46% of the total production. This rifle features a 24 3/8" octagon barrel, full-length 17 round tubular magazine, dovetailed brass blade front sight, flip-up "L" shape dual leaf rear sight, brass frame, smooth trigger, knurled hammer spur, scalloped loading gate, smooth walnut semi-beavertail forend with brass cap and a straight grip shoulder stock with brass crescent buttplate. Includes a tooled brown leather rifle scabbard by Dave Shelley of Cody, Wyoming. The barrel is stamped "WINCHESTER'S-REPEATING-ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT./KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860" with the right edge marking 2" away from the receiver. The rifle displays an even dark brown patina on the barrel, a mottled brown patina on the magazine tube, a nicely aged brass patina on the receiver which shows scattered dings & soft edges. The action appears to be is in working order other that the lifter not traveling fully upward, the bore is good, the markings are very faint, and the wood later stocks are near fine.
