'Second Model' Exhibition embellished antique large frame lever action repeating rifle chambered in .45-75 Winchester. Manufactured circa 1880 and subsequently adorned with fine floral scroll hand engraving, 13 gold wire inlays, gold White-tailed deer bust on the left side of the receiver, gold cow moose bust on the right side of the receiver, gold bull moose game scene on the right side plate and elaborate wooded scene on the left side plate with gold bear fighting two silver dogs. Features a blued 28" octagon barrel, full-length magazine tube, dovetailed front sight with German silver blade, adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sporting sight, smooth trigger, case hardened hammer with knurled spur, dust cover with knurled oval thumb piece, curved case hardened finger lever, case hardened forend cap with sling swivel, point checkered extra fancy walnut forend, and pistol grip shoulder stock with inlayed curved bare pistol grip cap, inletted sling swivel & nickel plated trapdoor buttplate containing a five piece cleaning rod. Includes a 1981 dated factory letter to Jim Wilkinson stating it's original configuration as: "rifle, octagon barrel, plain trigger, checkered stock, checkered pistol grip, globe & graduated peep sights", also that it was received in the warehouse & shipped October, 19 1880. The barrel is marked "WINCHESTER'S PEPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT./ KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29.1866. OCTOBER 16.1860." and the upper tang is stamped "MODEL 1876." Rifle exhibits approximately 99%+ beautiful bluing and case hardening with no observed wear. The nickel plated buttplate displays a cloudy cloudy appearance and shows some small losses. Action is smooth, the bore is excellent, markings are clear and the extra fancy wood stocks are very good+ with some small scattered dings/depressions.
