Stunning, deluxe, special order lever action repeating rifle chambered in .40-82. Manufactured in New Haven, CT circa 1890. Features a blued 26” half-round half octagon barrel, Lyman beach front sight with ivory bead, elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sight, Lyman tang mounted peep sight, full-length tube magazine, smooth curved trigger, knurled hammer spur w/ ‘widow’s peak’, case hardened receiver, curved finger lever, “H” pattern hand checkered XX walnut forend and pistol grip shoulder stock with ebony inlaid grip cap and crescent metal buttplate. The top barrel flat has the two-line Winchester address ahead of the rear sight and "40-82 W.C.F." at the breech. The lower tang has the two-line patent dates marking and the serial number. Rifle retains approximately 60% of its original bluing with the balance turned to brown patina & approximately 65% of its cased hardened colors mostly on the lever & receiver, with handling loss on the under side of receiver, traces on the fore cap, & the buttstock in the white. The action is mechanically sound, the bore is bright with light frosting, the markings are crisp/clear and the fancy walnut stocks are very good with minor blemishes. Includes a factory letter confirming all current features as original with the possible exception of the barrel which states “Barrel Type: Octagon”.
