Winchester Model 1866 lever action rifle, .44 caliber, 24” round barrel, brass frame, S/N 147044, in overall very good condition showing a plum brown patina to barrel and loading tube, taffy colored patina to brass frame; very goodmarkings, crisp action, very good wood stocks with normal wear; cleaning rod in butt trap. Accompanied by a factory letter confirming rifle with round barrel; received in the warehouse on Nov. 1, 1877 and shipped on Jan. 21, 1878 to order #11084. Also with this lot is a note from the consignor stating “This was a black family’s rifle that they had for protection against the Klan during reconstruction”. (Antique). Est.: 8,000-$16,000.
