Winchester Model 1876 lever action rifle, .45-60 caliber, 28” round barrel, S/N 29589, blued finish, wood stocks in overall very good to near fine condition displaying areas of original blue on the receiver and original blue in protected areas of the barrel and loading tube with the balance of the gun gone to a pleasing patina; crisp action, sharp markings, very good to fine bore and good wood with scattered old dings, mars and scratches from carry and storage. Original factory letter confirms features and notes received in warehouse on November 3, 1882 with shipment on August 18, 1882 to order number 6003 with 8 Model 1876’s and returned by American Powder Mills with other 8 guns; this gun then reshipped on August 1, 1884 to order #13753. American Powder Mills was originally founded by Nathan Pratt in 1835 in Massachusetts; he subsequently sold his powder firm to the American Powder Co. in 1864 which later formed the U.S. Powder Trade Assn. in 1872 with all the big companies (DuPont, Hazard, Laflin & Rand, etc.).
