Early Colt Cavalry Single Action Army Revolver, #8290, .45 Colt cal., 7-1/2'' barrel, originally blue and case hardened finish, with one-piece walnut grips. Mfg'd 1874, with most of the serial numbers in this range being issued to 5th Cavalry Units in San Antonio, Texas, who were later sent to the Dakotas to fight the Northern Cheyenne and Sioux under Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull. Condition is very good with most of the finish having toned a silvery gray. Light pitting from poor storage to left forward portion of frame and topstrap. Small parts marked with ''A'' (Ainsworth); replacement walnut grips and several replaced small screws. Matching numbered parts including cylinder and barrel. Action and bore are good. Early examples of this type revolver are seldom seen in unmodified condition. Est.: $6,000-$9,000. (Antique)
