THOMPSON MODEL 1928 SUBMACHINE GUN. Cal. 45 ACP. S# 2464A. Bbl. 11 1/2". A beautiful Korean War Commemorative of the classic 1928 Thompson Submachine Gun. Issued by the American Historical Foundation in Richmond, Virginia, it is an Auto-Ordnance Corp. model 1928 with bright bluing, rich wood furniture & several bright gold colored accents. The 27 rib fluted barrel is terminated w/ gold plated Cutts compensator & blade front sight, marked w/ Thompson bullet logo. Matching plated rear adjustable Lyman graduated sight. Matching hardwood furniture w/ a deep luster including the horizontal wood forearm, rear stock w/ trapdoor & pistol grip. Pistol grip has an embedded medallion w/ the US Seal marked "IN HONOR OF THE KOREAN WAR" on right side. Shoulder stock includes an embedded medallion on both sides stating "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA / KOREAN SERVICE. Gold plated front & rear sling swivels. Gold plated, slotted top mounted, knurled cocking knob. Finish on exposed metal surfaces is a nice dark bluing. Right side receiver markings are as follows: “KOREAN WAR COMMEMORATIVE THOMPSON / LEST WE FORGET 25 JUNE 1950 - 27 JULY 1953 / IN DEFENSE OF THE PRINCIPLES OF THE FREE WORLD" w/ an American Flag & Korean Service engraving . Left side receiver markings include "ISSUED BY THE / AMERICAN HISTORICAL FOUNDATION / RICHMOND VIRGINIA", the US patent block and "AUTO-ORDNANCE CORPORATION / WEST HURLEY, NEW YORK U.S.A. / KWA205". MAGS: 1 matte black 50 rd. drum marked as follows: front data plate marked “MAGAZININE TYPE L / THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN / 50 CARTRIDGES CAL. 45 / FOR 1928 MODEL WIND TO / 9 OR 11 CLICKS”, front body marked “WIND 9 TO 11 CLICKS” below Thompson bullet logo, rear of magazine data plate marked “AUTO-ORDNANCE CORP. / NEW YORK / REGISTERED IN THE / U.S. PATENT OFFICE”. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Black plastic case w/ fit foam interior, gun lock. CONDITION: Finish coverage complete & consistent w/ some thinning, particularly in areas of mechanical intervention. Some scattered tiny examples of patina, as typical of long term storage. Wood is beautiful, demonstrating some finish clearcoat lifting, primarily on forend, as typical from contact w/ other firearms in vertical storage. Drum does not fit into action due to the drum rivets not having clearance in trigger group. Bright bore w/ light rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand.
