TRENCH KNIFE. 4 original and 1 reproduction. Referenced in the book "US Military Knives Book III by M.H. Cole" on page 106, these scabbards were developed in 1943 for the M3 trench knife. They were given steel plates on the back & front to protect the wearer from the blade tip. The throat was reinforced w/ 8 belt laces. The scabbard did not prove to be satisfactory & was replaced by the plastic M8 model. These 5 scabbards, which are all dated 1943 & marked "US M6", are also marked w/ the following contractors; "VINER BROS / MOOSE CO. / BARWOOD / MILSCO. / L&C". The scabbards are all equipped w/ the M1910 belt hook & minor construction details such as rivet types. The Moose Co. scabbard is notably shorter than the others by approx. 1/2". CONDITION: scabbards have moderate wear, staining & handling marks. Stitching is tight & all appear to be serviceable. (02-23698/RW). NON-GUN. $300-400.
