Lot of Two (2) 19th & 20th Century Fraternal Swords: (1) Early type resembling a U.S. militia officer's sword from the late 1800's. The 23-1/2'' blade has been broken off near the tip, and has faint remnants of etched engraving. Crossguard and pommel are cast brass. Grip is wood covered with sharkskin. Scabbard is steel with brass fitting on top, and missing the lower fitting. OAL is 33''. Condition is poor with the broken blade, losses to the grip covering, replaced wire wrapping on the grip, and a nut retaining the tang at the pommel. (2) Nice early 20th century Knights of Pythias example with a 26'' etched engraved blade with the owner's name ''Frederick William Osburn'' in the middle. Floral decorations and medieval knights are featured in the engraving. Maker is McLilley & Co. Columbus, Ohio. Crossguard and pommel are decorated in high relief with crosses and a knight's head. Grip is ivory with light scrimshawed designs. Scabbard is nickel plated with the same owners name, etched engraved, and has high relief fittings at the top, midpoint, and drag. OAL is 34''. Condition is very good, showing some wear and age and old polish residue. Est.: $200-$300/lot.
