serial #387274B, 44 WCF, 16" barrel with full magazine and an oxidized bore that shows rifling its entire length. While all Trapper carbines are rare, within the 1873 model, they are exceedingly rare. The carbine is accompanied by a factory letter which confirms that this carbine left the factory as a 16" gun in June of 1891. To put the rarity into perspective, between 1873 and 1919 Winchester manufactured 720,609 model 1873s, of those, only 450 were short carbines. This example has a great frontier look and feel. The metal surfaces bear a deep brown patina with some silvering along the high edges and with scattered pitting. The metal edges show some wear being softened somewhat. The plain walnut buttstock and forend show considerable wear with the action tangs remaining proud of the wood, the buttplate is the same while the forend matches in color and surface but it is not shy of the metal like the buttstock. This gun has lots of character; it is well-used and very honest. A great find for the western frontier collector. (1D11523-26) {ANTIQUE} [Jim Thrash Collection] (7000/9000)
