Western Pennsylvania Style Percussion Kentucky Half-stock Rifle
Percussion Kentucky half-stock rifle made in a style similar to rifles made by Mathias Ringle of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, circa 1850. Rifle measures 54" overall with a 38" octagon 40 caliber rifled barrel with rifle sights. Traces of a signature can be seen along with squiggle engraving behind and in front of sight. Percussion marked lock "Whitmore, Wolff, and Duff and Company/Pittsburgh, Pa." and double set trigger control. Curly maple half-stock with brass hardware including four piece engraved patchbox finial, similar to those used by Ringle. Stock has engraved brass saddle plate, brass oval, and star stock inlays. Comes with period hardwood ramrod. CALIBER: 40. FFL STATUS: Antique.
CONDITION
Overall poor with under rib loose and metal turning a dark brown patina with areas of oxidation. Wood has burnout around lock and is cracked near sideplate. Pitted bore with poor mechanics.
