Antique Flintlock Blunderbuss or Knee Pistol
Most likely made in areas under Ottoman Empire control circa 1800, with gun having only owner decorative markings. Guns like these were favorites of Tribesmen and Naval Men in the areas roamed by entities such as "The Barbary Pirates". These guns come under several names such as "Blunderbuss", "Knee Pistol"(Arabic Tribesmen fired from a horse on their knee) and a "DAG". Gun measures 20" overall with a 11" octagon to round steel barrel roughly 80 caliber with smoothbore and a noticeably flared muzzle. Large unmarked flintlock with single trigger control and held in place with brass sideplate with iron sling bar and eyelet for ease of carry from a horse or belt. Walnut fullstock with short pull butt stock, brass furniture and light incise carving around tang. Comes with replaced hardwood ramrod. Cool gun. CALIBER: 80. FFL STATUS: Antique.
CONDITION
Overall good for age and area of use since most were heavily used and remain in poor condition. Metal has faded to a silvery brown patina with light oxidation. Stock has traces of finish with shrinkage around uncleaned brass furniture. Stock has 3" sliver missing on forestock near muzzle on right side and a crack in same area on left with usual heavy usage dings and marks. Pitted bore with functioning mechanics.
