SCABBARDS. Lot of 5 German K98k bayonets with scabbards, including: 1) K98k bayonet mfg. by Carl Eickhorn in 1942. Left side of the ricasso is marked with the 2-digit year of mfg. and Carl Eickhorn's mfg. code "42 cof", with the S# "9920/ i" marked on the right. Left side of the pommel is marked with 2 Eagle/WaA519 proofs. Blade, guard, and pommel exhibit a blue finish overall. 2-piece grooved brown pressed resin grip scales. Complete with matching blued steel scabbard and unmarked brown leather frog. CONDITION: very good, with metal components retaining the majority of their original arsenal blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray patina, as well as some scattered spots of surface oxidation. Grips show some superficial marks from handling and storage, but are otherwise very good overall. Scabbard retains good amounts of its original blue, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning overall that show through to gray patina as well as areas of light to mild surface oxidation. Frog remains malleable, exhibiting some age related cracking, with crazing present overall. 2) K98k bayonet mfg. by Ernst Pack & Sohne in 1942. Left side of the ricasso is marked with the 2-digit year of mfg., followed by Ernst Pack & Sohne's mfg. code "42 cul", with the S# marked on the right. Left side of pommel is marked with eagle acceptance proofs. Blade, guard, and pommel exhibit a blue finish overall. 2-piece grooved brown pressed resin grips. Complete with a matching blued steel scabbard and black leather frog. CONDITION: blade retains most of its original arsenal blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and pitting at and around the tip. Guard and pommel exhibit areas of wear and thinning that shows through to gray patina, with light surface oxidation overall. Grips show scattered superficial marks and nicks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Scabbard shows wear and thinning overall, with scattered nicks and dings. Frog remains malleable, showing age related cracking and crazing overall. 3) K98k bayonet mfg. by E.u.F. Horster in 1944. Left side of the ricasso is marked with the 2-digit year of mfg. followed by E.u.F. Horster's mfg. code "44asw", with the S# marked on the right. Left side of pommel is marked with an eagle acceptance proof. Blade, guard, and pommel exhibit a phosphate finish. 2-piece reddish brown grooved pressed resin grip scales. Complete with matching phosphate finished steel scabbard. CONDITION: very good, with metal components retaining the majority of their original arsenal phosphate finish, exhibiting some mild wear and thinning, with scattered spots of oxidation and age related discoloration present on the pommel. Grips show a few superficial marks from handling and storage, but otherwise are very good overall. Scabbard retains the majority of its original phosphate finish, exhibiting some light wear and thinning, scattered superficial handling marks, as well as some scattered spots of light surface oxidation. 4) K98k bayonet mfg. by F.W. Holler in 1939. Left side of the ricasso is marked "F.W.HOLLER", with the S# marked on the right, and "39" marked on the spine. Left side of the pommel is marked with 2 Eagle/WaA253 acceptance proofs. Blade, guard, and pommel exhibit a blue finish overall. 2-piece grooved brown pressed resin grip scales. Complete with a matching blued steel scabbard and canvas web frog. CONDITION: excellent, with metal components retaining the vast majority of their original blue finish, exhibiting some areas of light to mild wear and thinning. Pommel shows light to mild surface oxidation overall. Grips show some superficial marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain very good overall. Scabbard shows some wear and thinning, scattered superficial handling marks, a few minor dents, as well as some scattered spots of light surface oxidation overall. Frog shows some age related discoloration, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. 5) K98k bayonet mfg. by Josua Corts und Sohn in 1935. Left side of the ricasso is marked with Josua Corts & Sohn's mfg. code "S/184" followed by a "G", denoting mfg. in 1935, with the S# marked on the right. Left side of pommel is marked with 2 early style droop eagle acceptance proofs. Blade, guard, and pommel exhibit a blue finish. 2-piece smooth wood grip scales. Complete with matching blued steel scabbard and brown leather frog. CONDITION: good, with the blade retaining the majority of its original blue finish, exhibiting wear, thinning, and scattered spots of oxidation towards the tip, with a small chip to the blade edge approx. 2 1/2" from the tip. Guard and pommel exhibit wear and thinning that shows through to gray patina, with scattered spots of surface oxidation overall. Wood grips show some superficial marks and impressions form handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Scabbard shows wear and thinning through to a gray patina, with scattered superficial handling marks, some pitting, as well as a few dents present overall. Frog remains malleable, exhibiting age related cracking and crazing. A nice assortment of German K98k bayonets, with their matching scabbards. (02-23947-2/MLW). $600-1,200.
