Whitney- Laidley Style I Rolling Block Sporting or Target Rifle
Built by Whitneyville Armory Company in New Haven, Connecticut utilizing the T.S.S. Laidley patent circa 1880. Rifle features 30" blued full octagon with missing front dovetail sight and rear folding graduated rear sight with missing tang peep sight. Barrel is marked at breech "40 CAL/50 GB". Case-hardened rolling block action with plain trigger and tang marked "Whitneyville Armory Company" and patent markings. Walnut checkered pistol grip stock with shotgun butt plate and matching walnut checkered splinter forearm with pewter nose cap. Rare rifle. J.T. Livengood Collection. CALIBER: 40-50. S/N: 12891. FFL STATUS: Antique.
CONDITION
Retains 90% blue with light freckling, edge wear, and traces of case colors with brown discoloration. Wood has traces of varnish with dings and nicks with checkering still sharp. Dark bore with functioning mechanics.
